Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram has shared his views on Pakistan’s Asia Cup T20 2025 squad. The former left-arm seamer has given a bold statement regarding the exclusion of modern-day greats Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan, claiming it is time to move on from the two modern-day greats.

Former Pakistani legendary pacer and commentator Wasim Akram has made a bold statement regarding Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan’s absence from Pakistan’s squad for the T20 Asia Cup 2025. The Sultan of Swing has claimed that the team is doing fine without the two champion batters.

The Pakistan T20I has witnessed a massive change within their team with some new faces and a new skipper in Salman Agha, and will be starting their campaign against Oman on 11 September at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Agha has led the team in four T20I series so far and has had a mix of success and failure in the format. While there are still some fans who are questioning the decisions of the management, Wasim Akram has decided to support the team while talking on the Sony Sports Network. 

“I think this team is doing OK. They have given enough chances to Babar and Rizwan as openers for 4 or 5 years. They did well, but not as well, not as consistently, and hence the new boys,” Akram said. 

“Babar is not there, Rizwan is not there. I think the idea was to move on from them, to go to these youngsters. They’ve done well, haven’t been consistent, but at least they have the right mindset. They don’t have a fear of losing. When you have a fear of losing, you buckle under pressure. So these guys, they might lose, but I think Salman Agha is a good captain,” the 1999 World Cup winner concluded.

This will also mark the first time since 2016 that the Green Shirts will not have Babar and Rizwan in their squad.
