Royal Challengers Bengaluru managed to aggregate 93 runs for the loss of two wickets halfwaway through their innings after Phil Salt and Devdutt Padikkal paid rapid cameos to cover for Virat Kohli's sluggish start of 16 runs in his first 22 deliveries. By the eighth over, skipper Rajat Patidar had walked out to the crease to give the talisman company, and the duo's simultaneous presence at the crease made for some amusing viewing, with an incident in the ninth over perfectly symbolizing their revamped relationship for the season.

The disbelief was writ large on the veteran's face as walked down the pitch to consult with Patidar, knowing that the IPL allows players to review wide calls, and was about to go upstairs when he realized he was not the one in charge of making the calls anymore. As the 37-year-old brought his hands back down, he let out a laugh and his captain reciprocated, making for a wholesome moment even though the replays showed that Kohli was correct in demanding a DRS.
