Winning his first toss as the Royal Challengers Bengaluru skipper, Rajat Patidar opted to field first against the Kolkata Knight Riders. Despite a hiccup in the opening over, Ajinkya Rahane and Narine ensured that the gung-ho approach steered them to 60/1 in the powerplay. Eleven balls later, a bizarre incident took center stage as the visitors failed to get the partnership broken despite a chance.
After a bumper on the fourth ball of the eighth over which Narine tried to hack across the line, something unexpected happened. The bails lit up suddenly and Tim David, among notable RCB players, asked Jitesh Sharma the keeper, about the incident. However, they were uncertain that Narine’s bat hit the stumps and the bails fell off. Narine, who went for a slog, failed to control the bat’s momentum, causing a hitwicket that went unnoticed, giving every reason for the Twitterverse to go abuzz.
The MCC Laws for the same reads:
35.1 Out Hit wicket35.1.1 The striker is out Hit wicket if, after the bowler has entered the delivery stride and while the ball is in play, his/her wicket is broken by either the striker's bat or person as described in Laws 29.2.1.2 to 29.2.1.4 (Breaking the wicket fairly) in any of the following circumstances:35.1.1.1 in the course of any action taken by him/her in preparing to receive or in receiving a delivery,35.1.1.2 in setting off for the first run immediately after playing or playing at the ball,35.1.1.3 if no attempt is made to play the ball, in setting off for the first run, providing that in the opinion of the umpire this is immediately after the striker has had the opportunity of playing the ball,35.1.1.4 in lawfully making a second or further stroke for the purpose of guarding his/her wicket within the provisions of Law 34.3 (Ball lawfully struck more than once).
