T20 cricket and its accompanying proliferation of boundaries has forced bowling teams to make every half-chance count, such as consistently taking catches by the rope. Those same skills came into play in Leeds on Sunday when Ravindra Jadeja and Sai Sudharsan combined to send Jamie Smith packing.

‌England kept clawing their way into India’s first innings total of 471 at Headingley on Day 3 of the first Test with Harry Brook playing protagonist. After stitching together a 51-run stand with skipper Ben Stokes, the local boy combined with Jamie Smith for 73 runs in just 88 deliveries, the latter playing the aggressor. The duo seemed set to take the hosts past the 80-over mark to contend with the new ball, even as the visitors peppered them with short deliveries, and an exceptional showcase of fielding ultimately did earn India the crucial breakthrough.
Prasidh Krishna took the ball in hand for the final over before a brand new Dukes came up for grabs and was immediately greeted with a pull over deep square leg for maximum. However, Krishna relented with the bumper ploy as he fired in another on the third delivery with Smith intent on taking on every one of them. This time though, the red cherry caught the lower end of the bat and floated high while Ravindra Jadeja and Sai Sudharsan converged under it at the edge of the ropes. As the ball dipped down, Jadeja kept his balance to secure it in his palms and lobbed it to Sai Sudharsan before going across the ropes. The relay was a bit tentative but Sudharsan was alert and took a step forward to complete the catch while ensuring he did not touch the ropes.
Twitterati was in awe of the level of awareness shown to end England’s momentum.
