ENG vs IND | Twitter impressed as Yashasvi Jaiswal earns Jofra Archer’s approval with audacious ramp

Test cricket has always been old school, with batters avoiding risks and fancy shots, but Yashasvi Jaiswal defied that on the first day of the fourth Test in Manchester. The opener came up with an audacious ramp shot off pacer Jofra Archer over the slip cordon, earning the bowler’s approval.

‌India, trailing 2-1 in the five-match series, were asked to bat first after hosts England won the toss in the fourth Test at Old Trafford in Manchester. With overcast conditions assisting the England pacers early on, KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal adopted a cautious approach to reach 42/0 in 14 overs after the first hour of play.

With the pair continuing their stay further, England captain Ben Stokes was forced to bring back his strike bowler Archer with five more overs to go for lunch. After conceding a run in his first over of the spell, the pacer returned for another with both batters looking to end the session without losing a wicket.

But Jaiswal came up with an unbelievable shot, against the run of play, in the fifth ball of that over. Archer tried to rush the southpaw with the short ball ploy, pitching one around leg stump, targeting his rib cage.

Jaiswal was surprised as he bent down to take evasive action, but pulled out something special while going down. The opener brought his bat right in the nick of time, directing the red cherry over the slip cordon to the ropes.

Archer was shocked by the fast hands of the young batter as he smiled at his Rajasthan Royals teammate at the end of his run-up before walking back. Just like the pacer, Twitter was in awe of Jaiswal, who evaded getting hit and collected a boundary at the same time, taking India into lunch without losing a wicket.
