India Women were put into bat and set a target of 144 for England Women in the shortened ODI match at Lord's. This was a below-par score by the visitors, and it was important for them to take early wickets in the powerplay. Unfortunately, the three Lionesses made sure they had a solid start and put the Indian bowlers under pressure. While Amy Jones rotated the strike well, Tammy Beaumont continued to play her shots and was timing the ball exceptionally in the middle. Harmanpreet Kaur-led side was visibly under the pump and were desperate for wickets. The Desperation could be seen in an unusual appeal made by the Women in Blue in the fifth over of the game.
The over was bowled by Deepti Sharma, and it was the fifth ball of the over where all the action took place. Beaumont had danced down the wicket only to find Jemimah Rodrigues at short mid-wicket, who saved the quick single with a sharp dive as the English opener was sent back by Jones. However, as Rodrigues threw the ball to wicketkeeper Richa Ghosh, as Beaumont’s pad blocked the ball before it reached her. This led to Ghosh appealing for obstructing the field, believing that the batter deliberately came in the way of the throw. The appeal was referred to the third umpire, who in the end concluded that it was not out.
The fans criticised the actions by Ghosh on social media as well.
Controversy Sparks!

The opener looking sharp early doors 👊
Oh!
Wow, India appeal for Obstructing the Field against Tammy Beaumont... and by the letter of the law, I think they had a fair case.

"...she wilfully attempts to obstruct or distract the fielding side by word or action." The obstruction was neither accidental nor to avoid injury.
Survived!
Boos ring out at Lord’s as Tammy Beaumont survives a strange obstructing-the-field appeal, even as Richa Ghosh looks far from pleased.

True!
Was that not a blatant obstruction of the field by Tammy Beaumont? I'd feel blatantly cheated not getting a wicket in that situation
— LFCJ (@Lpool_5843)
Yes!
That's nonsense! Beaumont isn't doing anything — she's just getting back to the crease.

Joke of an appeal for obstructing the field by Harmanpreet Kaur
True!
I'm REALLY not happy with that appeal. Tammy was already in her crease
