Rishabh Pant has given some great performances in the ongoing England tour this season in the two Test matches he has played. India batting coach Sitanshu Kotak has spoken about the approach and mindset of the promising left-handed wicket-keeper batter and how he plans his innings in the format.

‌India's star wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant has had a successful series against England so far with some incredible knocks in the last four innings he has played. Pant has scored 342 runs in the two matches at an average of 85.50, with two centuries and one half-century to his name. He has once again been successful in counterattacking the English bowling attack and putting the opponents under pressure, scoring his runs at a strike rate of 81.81 -- the next quickest batter in the Indian contingent has been skipper Shubman Gill, with a strike rate of 73.86.

Pant's career record now stands at 3,290 runs in 45 Tests at an average of 44.45 with eight tons to his name, four of which have come in England itself. Indian team’s batting coach Sitanshu Kotak has given a detailed explanation on how the young star has been successful in the red-ball format.

“Rishabh actually talks a lot about what he does, when he does , why he does . To me, he's spoken, but he's someone who doesn't like talking too much during his innings because he feels that that changes his mindset, and he takes the wrong decision. That's only when he's batting,” Kotak said as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

“Apart from that, he talks about other batters also, about himself also, and he does [properly plan] what he wants to do because it's not so easy to score Test hundreds or not so easy to be successful at this level without having any planning,” Kotak added.

Pant is next expected to take the field against England on July 10 at the Lord's Test with the five-match series tied 1-1 after the two opening encounters.
