Similarities can never be done away with in cricket, and Charlie Dean showed that again during the Hundred Women’s 2025 match against Oval Invincibles at The Oval. The London Spirit all-rounder reminded the cricketing world of Faf du Plessis as she completed a stunning one-handed catch in the game.

‌London Spirit kept themselves in the fray to qualify for the playoffs of The Hundred Women’s 2025 campaign with a thumping eight-wicket win over Oval Invincibles at the Oval on Monday. They are currently placed third with 20 points from eight matches, four ahead of Manchester Originals, who have a game in hand.

Eva Gray and Charlie Dean finished with identical figures of 2/12 in their respective 20-ball spells to restrict the hosts to a modest 108/8 in 100 balls. In return, Kira Chathli and Georgia Redmayne put on a blistering opening stand of 106 in just 58 balls to help the Spirit go past the target to reach 112/2. Kira smashed seven fours and two sixes in her 29-ball 53 while Redmayne scored 42 in 30 balls as the visitors closed off the chase with 38 balls to spare.

Apart from her bowling exploits, off-spinner Dean caught the attention of the cricketing world with a stunning effort on the field. She pulled off an excellent one-handed catch at mid-off to spark striking resemblances with Faf du Plessis’ effort in the Indian Premier League.

All-rounder Marizanne Kapp (32), who top-scored for the home side in an otherwise inept batting display, was looking to take the Invincibles closer to the 120-run mark. With six balls remaining, pacer Issy Wong ran in to deliver the last ball of the penultimate over with the score reading 101/6.

Kapp stepped out of the crease to send a slower delivery from the bowler, which pitched on a good length around off stump, but Dean had other ideas. The England all-rounder timed her jump to perfection to pouch the flying ball with her outstretched right hand before landing safely.

Kapp could not believe what she saw as Dean threw the ball coolly to the umpire before receiving high-fives from her teammates. Twitter was impressed by her effort as she quickly struck a stunning resemblance to Faf du Plessis’s marvellous catch for Royal Challengers Bengaluru against Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2024.

Charlie Dean pouches a stunner!
