Sourav Ganguly will replace former England international Jonathan Trott as the head coach of Pretoria Capitals in SA20. Ganguly will be joined by South African pacer Shaun Pollock, who was appointed as the assistant coach, ahead of the fourth season of South Africa’s premier franchise tournament.

‌Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly was named the head coach of the SA20 side Pretoria Capitals, with former South Africa pacer Shaun Pollock joining him as the assistant coach of the franchise. Ganguly replaces former England batter Jonathan Trott ahead of the fourth season of South Africa’s premier franchise tournament set to start on December 26.

Though the former BCCI president was involved in the Delhi Capitals’ setup as a mentor in the Indian Premier League 2019 season, this will be the first time for him as head coach of a side. The appointment will see him take up the role after acting as the Director of Cricket in JSW Sports, the parent company of Pretoria Capitals. Incidentally, JSW, in association with the GMR group, owns the Delhi Capitals franchise in the IPL and Women’s Premier League.

Meanwhile, Pollock returns to coaching duties after his stint with the Mumbai Indians in the initial phases of the IPL. The pair will join hands ahead of the much-anticipated SA20 auction before action kicks off late this year.

After finishing on top of the points table and losing out in the final in the inaugural edition of SA20 in 2023, Pretoria had forgettable campaigns in the next two editions, finishing second from last on both occasions. The Capitals will start their campaign in the fourth season against the Joburg Super Kings in Centurion on December 27.
