Purani Delhi 6 registered their second consecutive win in the ongoing Delhi Premier League with a 10-run victory against the New Delhi Tigers. Samarth Seth (80), Pranav Pant (46), and Vansh Bedi (31 off just nine balls), followed by the bowling masterclass, played a vital role in PD 6’s win.
In another DPL 2025 game on Friday, August 8, the toss-winning New Delhi Tigers opted to bowl first against Purani Delhi 6. While batting first, Purani Delhi lost their first wicket in Aarush Malhotra (15) just in the third over of the innings. But his opening mate, Samarth Seth, alongside Pranav Pant, changed the course of the game. It all started when Seth smashed 12 runs in the fourth over off Deepak Punia’s bowling, hitting a four and a six. Pant continued the attack in the next over, smashing 16 runs, with three fours, including two wide balls conceded by Prince Yadav. Pant and Seth scored nine runs in the last over of the powerplay to end scoring 54/1 in six overs. After an economical seventh over (four runs) bowled by Dhruv Kaushik, the Pant-Seth duo smashed 13 runs each in the eighth and ninth over, respectively. They went on to stitch a 105-run partnership for the second wicket before Pant was dismissed by Parth Bali in a caught-and-bowled dismissal. He scored 46 runs off 36 balls, with six fours and a six. Seth was joined by skipper Vansh Bedi, and they stitched a blistering 54-run partnership off just 21 balls for the third wicket. This partnership included Bedi’s fiery cameo of 31 runs off just nine balls, hitting one four and four sixes. After Bedi’s dismissal in the 17th over, Seth’s efforts also came to an end in the next over, after smashing 80 (46). The late contribution of 10 (8) by Lalit Yadav helped Pd6 post 200/6 on board. Amidst a bad day for other bowlers, NDT’s Pankaj Jaswal ended up with the figures of 3/28 in his four overs.
New Delhi Tigers lost their first wicket on the very first ball of the second innings when Dhruv Kaushik was dismissed on a golden duck off Yug Gupta. Following this early blow, Shivam Gupta and skipper Himmat Singh came up with a counterattacking approach, adding quick 39 runs for the second wicket in 26 balls. Singh’s 30 runs off 17 balls ended when he was caught by Dev Lakra off Pardeep Parashar. Gupta stitched another much-needed partnership of 54 runs for the third wicket with Vaibhav Rawal. Gupta’s 39-run knock ended when he fell prey to Udhav Mohan on the last ball of the ninth over. Rawal continued the charge against the Riders’ bowlers and smashed 62 runs off just 35 balls, with three fours and four sixes. He took his side closer to the target by the 19th over. But the team’s hopes faced a big dent when Rajneesh Dadar dismissed Rawal on the fifth ball of the 19th over. The late efforts of 16 and 23 runs by Aryan Dalal and Deepak Punia couldn’t be enough as the Tigers fell 11 runs short of the target, getting restricted to 190/7 in the entire 20 overs. With this win, Purani Delhi also made it to the top four teams in the tournament’s points table.
PD6 opener Samarth Seth was adjudged the ‘Player of the Match’ award for his match-winning and outstanding knock of 80 runs off just 46 balls, with five fours and six sixes to help his side post a 200-run total in the first innings.
