The game of cricket often gets interrupted due to various reasons, and it was a fox’s turn during the inaugural match of The Hundred. The game between London Spirit and Oval Invincibles was briefly held up with the creature taking a lap of honour before making its way out of the park at Lord’s.
Will Jacks anchored the chase with a run-a-ball 24 to guide the Invincibles to the target with 31 balls to spare. His opening partnership of 34 from 32 balls with Tawanda Muyeye built a strong foundation and ensured Liam Dawson’s excellent spell of 2/9 went in vain.
Just as the defending champions were getting into the groove during the chase, an unexpected visitor made its way onto the field. Muyeye hit the first boundary of the innings in the third ball of Daniel Worrall’s first set as the cameras zoomed to a sprinting fox.
The small fox ran through the outfield, covering the entire boundary, as play got interrupted. The players were amused to see the fox run continuously, with the crowd also joining in with loud cheers.
The frightened fox kept running before finally jumping over one of the advertisement hoardings to find a way out of the field. The crowd cheered the creature away, with play finally resuming after a hiatus. The fox soaked in all the attention and the cheers as it caught the organisers and ground staff off guard.
See who's on the field!
