England all-rounder Chris Woakes injured his shoulder during the fifth and final Test against India at The Oval in London on Thursday. The pacer prevented a Karun Nair drive from reaching the boundary but landed awkwardly outside the playing area, injuring his left shoulder in the process.
Karun Nair displayed patience and excellent technique to remain unbeaten on 52 off 98 balls, while Washington Sundar gave him company with 19 in 45 balls when stumps were drawn. The duo’s unbeaten 51-run partnership lifted India from a precarious 153/6 on a day where only 64 overs were possible due to intermittent rains.
The wet and slippery conditions also had a role to play in the unfortunate injury of Woakes towards the end of the day’s play. The all-rounder, stationed at mid-off, took off for a chase as Karun drove a juicy half-volley down the ground in the fifth ball of the 57th over from Jamie Overton.
After a long chase, the medium-pacer successfully tapped the ball just ahead of the boundary, but the momentum meant he had to dive past the ropes. But to Woakes’ horror, his left hand slipped off the wet ground, resulting in him landing awkwardly. He immediately clutched his left shoulder before rolling in pain as Karun showed great spirit in not running a fourth. The physio rushed into action, and the veteran pacer walked off the field with his left arm wrapped in a jumper, acting as a makeover sling.
"I don't know too much about it, but it doesn't look great," Gus Atkinson said after the day's play. "It's a big shame, last game of the series, and when anyone gets injured, it's a shame. I'm hoping it's not too bad, and whatever it is, he'll get full support from everyone."
Twitter was disappointed as Woakes suffered a probable shoulder dislocation that will prevent him from bowling further in the crucial game.

Oh!
Empathize with Chris Woakes during the fifth test at . Suspected shoulder dislocation, and having gone through it two weeks ago, with my arm still in a sling, so much so that when Ravi Shastri said “it’s excruciating pain”, I was like “you’re not kidding”!…
