MI vs SRH | Twitter in splits as Chahar endures two drops and overthrow to boot in chaotic first over

The beauty and tragedy of a team sport is no matter how brilliantly an individual performs, it could be worth no more than a footnote when history is written if the others fail to perform. Deepak Chahar experienced the phenomenon in all its might at the Wankhede when his first over went unrewarded.

Hardik Pandya won the toss against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Thursday and chose to bat first in front of a packed stadium with expectations running high of a high-scoring thriller. With the venue often offering plenty of movement in the air, the match-ups on offer were immediately enticing, as the most destructive opening pair in T20 cricket of late in Abhishek Sharma and Abhishek Sharma took charge against swing demon Deepak Chahar. Chaos ensued, but much to the hosts' misfortune it was a comedy of errors on their part that made the opening over a cinematic experience.

The action peaked immediately when Chahar delivered the perfect outswinger to Abhishek, headed straight to the top of off-stump, only for the young opener to pay no regard and dance down the track with aplomb. The intention was there but the execution far from it as the Kookaburra took the outside edge off his flailing willow and flew towards Will Jacks at slip who was set for a simple overhead catch. However, the bowler watched on in horror as the white rock rushed straight through the Englishman's cupped palms to not only cost the team a wicket but two extra runs as well. Even though a frustrated Chahar responded animatedly, he returned to business straight away and just three balls later created another opportunity with Head the victim this time around. The Australian opener tried to smack an outswinger towards midwicket but barely managed to connect. Karn Sharma was stationed in a atching position inside the circle for that very shot, yet he failed to garner any forward momentum as the ball dropped just short of the crouched veteran. Chahar was visibly livid, an emoton that only grew stronger next ball when Jasprit Bumrah fielded the next delivery at square leg and lobbed an innocous throw towards the keeper in order to induce pressure on the opposition, only for the ball to fly over the keeper, through Jacks' hands, and towards deep fine leg for an unnecessary single.

Twitterati could not be more entertained.
