CSK vs KKR | Twitter in splits as Sunil Narine gets a taste of his spin while fielding

Tables can turn, and sometimes bowlers get a taste of their own medicine. That’s exactly what happened to Sunil Narine in the clash against Chennai Super Kings, when he was at the receiving end of a misfield as the ball spun away from him in a way that resembled the very turn he does.

‌The hosts had a terrible time with the bat after losing the toss to KKR skipper Ajinkya Rahane. CSK’s innings got off to a shaky start as Moeen Ali and Harshit Rana removed both openers, Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra, during the powerplay. Vijay Shankar and Rahul Tripathi tried to steady things, but wickets kept falling at regular intervals—first Shankar at 61/3, then Tripathi and Ashwin soon after, leaving the hosts struggling at 65/4 by the 13th over. Further setbacks came with Jadeja and Hooda falling cheaply, and with the score at 72/7 in the 15th over, a subdued Chepauk finally found something to cheer as MS Dhoni walked out to bat at number nine. With the last pair, Anshul kamboj and Dube at the crease, there came an amusing moment.

On the second ball of the 20th over, Vaibhav Arora delivered a low full toss outside off, which Shivam Dube tried to muscle away but ended up getting it off the inner half toward backward square leg. Sunil Narine was stationed there and looked set to stop the ball, but in a twist of irony. It was the spin that got the better of him as he misjudged it while turning. The ball slowed down on the outfield, denying a boundary, and the Twitterverse had a field day watching spin trouble even the master of it, albeit in the field.

Nothing disappoints a crowd more than their favorite hero getting out cheaply in front of a packed stadium. Chennai Super Kings’ skipper MS Dhoni had a forgettable time with the bat as he returned as the skipper of the franchise after two years and was out scoring just one run in four deliveries.
