In what has turned out to be a significant setback for Team India, all-rounder Shivam Dube has been ruled out of the three-match T20I series against Bangladesh starting October 6 at Gwalior. The Board of Cricket in India (BCCI) announced Tilak Varma as a replacement for the Mumbaikar.

Dube, who was part of India’s successful T20 World Cup campaign, has picked up a back injury that left him devoid of a place in the squad against Bangladesh. He was last seen bowling in the Duleep Trophy’s first round in M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru, for India A. He bowled twelve overs in the first innings, returning with four maidens and conceding just 14 runs. However, he failed to shine with the bat, scoring just 20 and 14 runs.

His replacement for the upcoming T20I encounters, Varma, has been knocking on the selectors' door after being left out of the T20 World Cup in the United States of America and the West Indies. The southpaw smashed a scintillating ton during the second round of the Duleep Trophy in Anantapur.

Varma has scored 336 runs in 16 innings for the Men in Blue at an average of 33.60 and a strike rate of 139.41.

India is coming on the back of a 2-0 Test series triumph against Bangladesh before gearing up for the white ball series under captain Suryakumar Yadav. They have named a few exciting names including Harshit Rana, and Mayank Yadav.
