IPL 2024 | Harshit Rana issued one-game ban for breaching code of conduct against Delhi

The Indian Premier League on Tuesday released a statement announcing that Kolkata Knight Riders pacer Harshit Rana has been fined 100% of his match fee against Delhi Capitals as well as been handed a one-match ban. This is the second time the quick has been reprimanded in the season.

‌The penalty imposed most likely pertains to Harshit Rana's actions after dismissing Delhi Capitals' Abishek Porel in the seventh over. After knocking over the batsman's off and middle stumps, the 22-year-old gave his counterpart a send-off by dismissively waving him away. According to the IPL's Code of Conduct, the gesture was a Level 1 breach of the tournament rules' Article 2.5 as imposed by the match referee with no provisions for an appeal. The pacer would thus be forced to stay on the sidelines for KKR's upcoming encounter against Mumbai Indians at Wankhede on May 3.

Rana was also reprimanded earlier in the season after the right-arm quick had sent off Sunrisers Hyderabad's Mayank Agarwal by eyeing him down followed by a flying kiss. However, the fine then was limited to 60% of the match fee.

Rana has enjoyed a fruitful season so far with 11 wickets in seven innings, making him the team's joint-highest wicket-taker which has propelled KKR to second in the table with six wins in nine games and a stellar net run rate of 1.096.
