‌IPL 2024 | Twitter awed by shrewd Undakat masterfully baiting Jacks to run out at bowler’s end

The game of cricket has been center stage to some of the 1000 IQ moments and it’s no different in the IPL as well. Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Jaydev Undakat showcased a similar mastery by skillfully running out Will Jacks at the non-striker’s end to push the home side on the back foot in a hefty chase.

Chasing a gargantuan total of 286 runs on their home ground, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru got off to a flying start, courtesy of Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis. The duo gathered 79 runs inside the powerplay, surpassing their counterpart’s 76-run powerplay score and staying in the chase. However, the introduction of Mayank Markande outsmarted Kohli followed by Unadkat’s brilliant craft sending back Will Jacks in the eighth over.

Having bowled four slower ones in the first five deliveries, Unadkat sprayed an off-cutter to Faf du Plessis on the last ball of the over that the RCB captain played back towards the bowler. As the ball ricocheted off the bat, Unadkat skillfully stretched his right hand towards the ball’s trajectory and guided the kookaburra towards the non-striker’s end stumps. Will Jacks at the bowling end had already taken off to cross over by then and was in no distance to get back inside the crease, thereby leading the ball crashing onto the stumps and causing a runout.

Seeing Undakat’s spot on presence of mind, the Twitterverse could not shy away from labelling it a shrewd act.
