IPL 2024 | Twitter reacts to Avesh Khan furious over Sanju Samson’s trust issue amidst catch drop

A good captain is often judged by the ability to lead the team from the front. The particular trait was questioned for Sanju Samson after he cost a potential wicket to Avesh Khan by not trusting his ability to catch the ball as Punjab Kings squared off against Rajasthan Royals in Mullanpur.

With the hype around an El Classico fixture in the form of Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings, the latter was forced to bat first in their home game. With Shikhar Dhawan absent for this encounter, the hosts suffered setbacks as they were reduced to 52/4 within ten overs. With the pitch on the slower side the lower order’s resilience was curbed with some extraordinary fielding despite one bizarre incident that involved captain Samson and Avesh.

On the second ball of the 19th over, Avesh dished a fuller one outside the off that Ashutosh tried to smoke across the line but got a top edge. The ball skied up in front of the short mid wicket region and Avesh was seen hurling towards it to reward himself with a third scalp of the day. Simultaneously, Samson scampered towards the free-falling white rock but none of the two RR players could actually take the catch. As the ball landed between the two fielders due to the miscommunication, the bowler seemed agitated with Samson’s approach for the catch and had an exchange of words, leading the Twitterverse into a frenzy.
