IPL 2024 | Twitter reacts to obstinate Hardik gifting DK back-to-back boundaries with poor captaincy

‌The addition of captaincy responsibility could turn up as a hit-or-miss in an individual’s sporting career. Certainly, Hardik Pandya’s appointment as Mumbai Indians captain raised many eyebrows and the critics intensified when one of his decisions backfired, culminating in three boundaries.

Winning the toss on their home game, Hardik Pandya, the captain of Mumbai Indians, chose to field first. The pacers, Jasprit Bumrah and Akash Madhwal backed it up well by getting a couple of wickets inside the powerplay, followed by Rajat Patidar and Faf du Plessis stabilizing the innings with individual half-centuries. This helped Dinesh Karthik to perfect his role in the slog overs that included three fancy attempts resulting in four, courtesy of Hardik Pandya’s stubbornness.

On the second ball of the 16th over, Madhwal dished a low full-toss wide outside the off stump that Karthik premeditated for a ramp and scooped it at the last moment to help the ball sail towards third man. Rohit Sharma was seen gesturing to push the short third fielder back to the deep but Hardik stuck to his method, resulting in a couple of boundaries on the fourth and fifth delivery as well. Once again, they were fuller one dished outside the off and Karthik managed to connect the reverse scoops perfectly to get the gaps threaded for fours, sending the Twitterverse into a frenzy.

Rohit knew it!

He looks like that!

The idea of backing a potential candidate at his poor time can yield a desirable result in the future. A similar theory worked well for Royal Challengers Bengaluru as an off-form Rajat Patidar found his groove back and teed off captain Hardik Pandya at Mumbai Indians’ home venue in Wankhede.
