‌IPL 2024 | Twitter reacts to Yash Thakur fifer setting up Super Giants’ maiden win against Titans

Winning the toss and electing to bat first backfired initially for the Lucknow Super Giants as Umesh Yadav removed Quinton de Kock and Devdut Padikkal halfway in his first couple of overs with the score reading 18/2 in three overs. KL Rahul and Marcus Stoinis added 25 runs in the next two overs, paving the hosts to a 47-run powerplay. The wicket seemed on the slower side and the pair milked their way to 78 runs partnership with occasional boundaries before Rahul’s struggle ended in the 13th over. Soon after, Stoinis hit two sixes in the 15th over before top-edging a length ball off Darshan Nalkande, leaving LSG at 114/4 in 15 overs. Subsequently, two quiet overs followed before Ayush Badoni and Nicholas Pooran charged Mohit Sharma for 17 runs. However, Rashid Khan and Spencer Johnson pulled things back with modest overs, restricting LSG to 163/5 in 20 overs. 

In reply, the new opening pair of Shubman Gill and B Sai Sudharsan offered a decent start, scoring 54 runs inside the powerplay, largely powered by the latter coupled with a few extras. The departure of Gill in the last ball of the powerplay led to the downfall of GT's batting as Krunal Pandya and Ravi Bishnoi extracted three more wickets in a span of ten deliveries. Surprisingly, Darshan Nalkande was sent in at No.6 but the gamble did not pay off for the GT as he was outsmarted in the 13th over, followed by Yash Thakur inducing a double wicket maiden, leaving GT wrecked at 93/7 in 15 overs. Having lost seven wickets for 39 runs in a tenure of nine overs, the momentum was well with LSG bowlers. Although Rahul Tewatia displayed late resilience with the tail, GT fell short by 33 runs as the 22 year old Vidharba speedster claimed a fifer to lead the Super Giants to their maiden victory against the Titans.
