In times of challenge, a senior’s mentorship and protection can act as a huge relief. Amidst the chaos of a split fanbase after Hardik Pandya’s ascension to captaincy, Rohit Sharma stepped up to control a raucous Wankhede during Mumbai Indians' clash against Rajasthan Royals on Monday.

Arriving on the back of back-to-back defeats, Mumbai Indians lost the toss and were forced to bat first. They suffered early stutters as Trent Boult and Nandre Burger wreaked havoc followed by the spinners, restricting them to 128. The Royals lost early wickets as well, but their middle order kept them in the game. However, amidst the heated contest, everyone’s attention switched to a different aspect involving Rohit Sharma.

With Riyan Parag and Ravichandran Ashwin ticking the scoreboard along nicely for Rajasthan Royals during the midway phase of the chase, the camera spotted Rohit in the deep. He was seen gesturing towards the crowd and trying to calm them down. Be it the away games or the home games, the MI crowd had turned their back on Hardik, and this special gesture from a senior in support of the current skipper sent the Twitterverse into a frenzy.
