Delhi Capitals batter Sarfaraz Khan got the chance to open the batting for his side against Punjab Kings on Monday and he impressed all with his quickfire knock. Sarfaraz Khan talked about DC head coach Ricky Ponting who had told him to make his chance count when he stepped out against PBKS.

Delhi Capitals batter Sarfaraz Khan got a chance to open the batting for his side against Punjab Kings. Sarfaraz Khan got this opportunity as their regular opening batter Prithvi Shaw was not available because of health issues for the game. In the previous games, KS Bharat had opened alongside David Warner but was unable to impress with the bat. This led to Sarfaraz getting a chance to open. The young batter had previously played in the middle order but was could not make an impact and was dropped from the side.

But, in the game against Punjab Kings, Sarfaraz Khan smashed 32 from 16 balls to give his side a good start. Sarfaraz talked about what his coach Ricky Ponting had told him and said, “Ricky Ponting told me that make this opportunity count. When we lost wicket (David Warner) on the first ball, in my mind I decided that I will continue to score runs at a brisk rate. Powerplays are very useful and can give the team the much-needed momentum, so I tried to score as many runs as possible,” Sarfaraz told Shardul Thakur in a chat after the match.

While speaking with Shardul Thakur, the young batter also talked about his scoop shot that he played against Rishi Dhawan, “I am confident of playing scoop shot. I can play other shots as well, but by playing scoop the opponents put a fine leg behind and keep mid-on and mid-off up. That’s the idea behind playing the scoop shot.”

After giving such a performance it looks like Sarfaraz Khan will open the batting with David Warner for the rest of the games. It will be interesting to see how he does in the upcoming matches.
