Sarfaraz Ahmed to remain in PCB's top Central Contract category despite captaincy sack

PCB have clarified that Sarfaraz Ahmed will remain in category A of the central contracts which is available for selection in all three formats of the game. Pakistan's new T20 captain Babar Azam and leg-spinner Yasir Shah are the two other players in category A of the central contracts.

After PCB declared the news of Sarfaraz Ahmed's sacking as the Test and T20I captain ahead of the November-December tour of Australia, it was also announced that he was dropped from both the teams following a run of poor form in the two formats. In between the news, rumours started floating around that the board had decided to relegate him to a lower category. However, PCB quashed all that.

"There will be no change in his central contract as he is available for selection in all three formats," the spokesperson said, reported Times of India.

Apart from the ousted formal skipper, Babar Azam, Pakistan’s new T20 captain, and veteran leg-spinner Yasir Shah are the two other players in category A of the contracts. The board has also issued an apology for a faux pas it committed just at the time it was announced that Sarfaraz had been removed as captain from all three formats, by saying, it was a pre-planned tweet, which came up as a co-incidence.
