Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah lead ICC player rankings ahead of World Cup

Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah have consolidated their position at the top of the ICC ODI player rankings going into the World Cup. Meanwhile, England will go into the 10-team tournament as the top-ranked side while India are in the second position with four points behind in the team rankings.

In the latest rankings announced by the ICC, after England’s 4-0 series victory over Pakistan, the tri-series in Ireland, and Sri Lanka and Afghanistan’s tours of Ireland, Kohli is enjoying a comfortable 41-point lead over his second-placed team-mate Rohit Sharma in the current rankings.

Apart from India, two players each from New Zealand (Ross Taylor at third and Martin Guptill at 10th), South Africa (Quinton de Kock at fifth and Faf du Plessis at sixth) and Pakistan (Babar Azam at seventh and Fakhar Zaman at ninth) have also found a place in the top-10 on the rankings table. Windies’ Shai Hope and England’s Joe Root are in fourth and eighth positions respectively.

While Bumrah tops the chart in the bowlers’ list, Kuldeep Yadav is at seventh and Yuzvendra Chahal holds on to his eighth ranking. On the other hand, South African pair Imran Tahir and Kagiso Rabada are in third and fourth positions respectively with New Zealand’s Trent Boult being at the second position. Rashid Khan of Afghanistan (third), Pat Cummins of Australia (sixth), Chris Woakes of England (ninth) and Mujeeb Ur Rahman (10th) are the others in the top 10 dominated by wrist spinners.

Among the all-rounder, Shakib Al Hasan is at the top position with 559 points with Rashid Khan being at the second with only 20 behind. Among the teams, England have 125 points and go into the World Cup as the top-ranked side while India are in the second position four points behind in the team rankings.
