VIDEO | MS Dhoni makes DRS blunder to give Jason Roy a reprieve

The DRS is widely reckoned as ‘Dhoni Review System’ for his efficiency when it comes to reviewing the on-field umpire’s call. MS Dhoni hardly gets it wrong and has been dead right in observing the game from behind the stumps but not on this occasion as a blunder granted Jason Roy a reprieve.

In a do-or-die game for England, they roped in Jason Roy, who missed the last three games due to injury. The right-handed opener holds the key at the top and has got emphatic starts on a regular basis. India was always going to be a tough nut to crack and England needed a solid start on this batting-friendly wicket.

Roy and Jonny Bairstow got England off to a steady start and the former was looking to shift gears. On the fifth delivery of the 11th over, Hardik Pandya placed the field for a short one and bowled one that was straying down the leg. The ball brushed the batsman’s glove and Pandya immediately went for the appeal which was turned down by Aleem Dar and instead given a wide. After having a brief conversation with Dhoni and Pandya, Virat Kohli decided not to review the decision and the timer ran out.

The replays suggested Roy had some gloves on it and had India reviewed it, the English opener would have been a goner. This was one of the rare instances when Dhoni got it wrong and India were denied a wicket.
