Lankan all-rounder Dhananjaya de Silva is confident that his team can beat World Cup favorites India as the two teams face off against each other in the coming week. Dimuth Karunaratane-led Sri Lanka registered an impressive 23-run win against West Indies in Monday’s game on Riverside ground.

Sri Lanka pulled off an impressive 23-run win against Jason Holder-led West Indies on Monday and now find themselves at sixth position in the ICC World Cup 2019 standings. After having played eight games at this year’s global showpiece, Sri Lanka have managed to register three wins and three losses, while two matches were abandoned due to bad weather.

Lankan all-rounder Dhananjay de Silva, who played an important role in restricting the West Indies’ batting order in yesterday’s game is adamant that his team can beat World Cup favorites when the two teams meet in the coming days.

“We have done well against India in other ICC tournaments and we have just beaten West Indies so if we can take that confidence and momentum into the next game then we can beat India again. We are trying hard to win every game and if we beat India then we can finish fifth,” de Silva was quoted as saying by PTI sources.

While Sri Lanka are already out of the running for a semi-final berth,  27-year-old all-rounder Dhananjaya de Silva believes they can end their campaign on a high with an upset win over India on Saturday. The Lankans had earlier caused a massive upset as they comprehensively beat hosts England.
