Ashes 2019 | Confident that we'll get the win, says Usman Khawaja

Usman Khawaja, who hasn't had the greatest of times with the bat so far this series, is confident that his side can turn things around and retain the urn. The left-hander expressed his disappointment over his side losing the Headingley game, terming it as "heartbreaking", but hopes that it'll turn into a fond memory once his side retains the Ashes.

"Disappointing for us but hopefully it'll make the next game or the game after even more sweet when we do win. It was an excellent innings [from Stokes]. The way it ended, the drama, you couldn't write a script like that. It was heartbreaking for us as a team," Khawaja was quoted as saying by Sportstar.

"We played beautifully in the last game, we were so close to winning the Ashes, and if a few things go our way at the end then we would have done.We've played some really good cricket and we're confident we'll get that win," he added.

The Queenslander welcomed the 10-day gap between the third and the fourth Test, stating that it will give his side ample time to hit the reset button and refresh mentally. With Tim Paine rested, Khawaja will also be leading the Australian side against Derbyshire in a three-day warmup match that starts today. 

"It doesn't make much difference. We already had two Tests back-to-back so it was pretty tough," Khawaja said when quizzed if it would have been easier to refocus without a long break.

"It's nice to get a bit of a break, refresh and go for the next two. Test cricket's always hard work, always tough competition. There's a lot of depth with Australia's squad, and they all deserve to play which is a good thing," he concluded.

The fourth Ashes Test will commence on September 4th at Old Trafford.
