Misbah-ul-Haq has distanced himself from rumors that he had applied to fill in the vacant position as head coach of Pakistan. PCB chief Ehsan Mani opted against the renewal of former coach Mickey Arthur's contract upon recommendations from the Cricket Committee headed by CEO Wasim Khan.

The Pakistan cricket team registered a mixed bag of results at this year's ICC World Cup in England. After winning just one of their first five games in the tournament, Mickey Arthur's boys won the remaining four games in the group stage as they narrowly missed out on qualifying for the semi-finals.

There were a lot of doubts raised about the team selection and coaching practices implemented by Arthur post the WC outing. PCB chief Ehsan Mani decided to against the renewal of Arthur and his support staff's contracts earlier this month on the recommendations of the Cricket Committee which also includes former skipper Wasim Akram and PCB CEO Wasim Khan.

One of the people tipped to step in as the next coach was former Pakistan skipper - Misbah-ul-Haq. However, Pakistan's most successful Test captain revealed that as things stand, he has not applied for the post of head coach.

“I know these players, I have played with them. I know the requirements of domestic and international cricket, I know what sort of preparations are required so if I can help them why not.

“As yet I have not applied for the head coach position and obviously the day I do I will first resign as the member of the Cricket Committee,” Misbah was quoted as saying by PTI sources.

The 44-year old added that he had only agreed to supervise the pre-season conditioning camp as he wanted to help the players prepare for the upcoming international and domestic season.
