We have seen it in the IPL, we have seen it in the World Cup, in fact, we are seeing it on a regular basis now. The worst thing is that there seems to be no solution to this conundrum as Virat Kohli remained lucky as the bails didn’t come off the groove after it went on to hit the stumps.
Cricket is called as the game of luck but it is unfortunate to see the game being reduced to a folly of some man-made errors. For reasons beyond a normal cricket fan’s fantasy, the bails have surprisingly not come out of the groove as often as it should have and ended up being a major controversy.
The first ball of the 18th over, which was bowled by Oshane Thomas, didn’t have as much pace as his other overs had and Kohli, sensing an opportunity down the pitch, tried to jam the delivery outside the off stump. However, the ball jerked in and after beating Kohli’s defense, it threatened to disturb the bails as well.
Kohli had missed the crease by a mile and couldn’t have stopped the ball from hitting the stumps. However, he remained lucky as the ball, after touching the stumps, failed to dislodge the bails. Kohli was pretty happy with the proceedings but his happiness didn’t last long as after hitting a boundary, he was dismissed on the third ball of the same over.
