Dinesh Karthik likely to replace injured Wriddhiman Saha in Afghanistan Test

Dinesh Karthik may get a shot at Test redemption after an injured Wriddhiman Saha looks doubtful for the Afghanistan Test. Karthik had played his last Test way back in 2010 against Bangladesh and has proved his class in the longest format with over 107 half-centuries and 1000 runs to his name.

Dinesh Karthik could most likely be called on to replace injured wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha in India's historic Test against Afghanistan in Bengaluru, which is starting from June 14. According to sources linked to the selection committee, MSK Prasad and company are now eyeing to give Karthik an opportunity for the long format games in the England tour, reported PTI.

Karthik has previously proved himself in Tests before during the England series in 2007, where He has had three half-centuries to his name - 60 at Lord's, 77 at Nottingham and 91 at the Oval. However, he has remained a stranger to the format since his last game in 2010 against Bangladesh.

With a first-class record of 27 centuries and over 9000 runs, Karthik would be a safe choice by the selectors. In the 23 Tests for India, he has scored over a 1000 runs with 107 half-centuries.
