Chris Gayle has proven time and again that you can never write him off even at the age of 38 as he always has something to offer, be it with the bat or as a fielder. The left-handed batsman pulled off a belter of a catch while fielding in the slips to dismiss Kavem Hodge off a Fawad Ahmed delivery.

Gayle played a massive role in this year’s IPL for Preity Zinta owned Kings XI Punjab as the team narrowly missed out on making the playoffs after a good start to the tournament. Many critics questioned Virender Sehwag and KXIP coach, Brad Hodge’s decision to spend Rs. 2 crores on the power-hitter as they believed that his time on the big stage was over.

But Gayle proved his doubters wrong as he amassed 368 runs from 11 matches over the course of the season. Gayle was subsequently picked by the Vancouver Knights for this year’s edition of the Global Canada T20 competition with the likes of banned Aussie duo of Steven Smith and David Warner also part of the North American league.

However, it was the tall KXIP batsman who was the talk of the evening in the Knights’ 7 wicket win over West Indies B which ultimately meant that the former ended the tournament as table-toppers. Gayle’s countryman, Kavem Hodge was on strike as Hodge edged a flighted delivery from Fawad Ahmed that went to first slip where Gayle was positioned.

The 'Universe Boss' took some time to discern where the ball was headed but somehow got his left hand on the ball but failed to grasp it on his first attempt as it slipped out of his reach. But Gayle was quick enough to quickly recover and grabbed the ball in the second attempt with his right hand while at full stretch to successfully complete the catch and dismiss Hodge, much to the Knights’ delight.

Vancouver Knights ended the Global T20 Canada League at pole position following the win over West Indies B with four wins and nine points in six matches. Meanwhile, the CWI B Team had four wins, two defeats, and eight points and were ended the competition at the number two spot.
