A decision on his availability for selection for the opening Test against South Africa will be taken on the morning of the match i.e. 5th January 2018.

Earlier, Dhawan injured his ankle during Virat Kohli’s wedding reception in Mumbai and that's why it was believed that he will miss out on the first Test against South Africa at Newlands.
