On the back of his exceptional 143-run knock against Sri Lanka in Nagpur, Cheteshwar Pujara has risen to the second spot on the latest ICC Test rankings announced today. Ravindra Jadeja has also leapfrogged Kagiso Rabada to end up on the second spot of the bowler’s rankings in the latest update.

It was an absolute masterclass in batting in Nagpur as India put up 610/6 in their first innings with three batsmen, Murali Vijay, Cheteshwar Pujara, and Rohit Sharma, scoring centuries while Virat Kohli completed the fifth double century of his career. This has resulted in Pujara, with a career-high of 888 rating points, climbing the ranking to the No. 2 spot with the next three players being separated by just 11 points.

Kohli, too gained 60 points to improve his tally from 817 to 877 points. However, the list is still being led by Steve Smith who extended his lead thanks to his unbeaten 141 at the Gabba in difficult conditions. Smith, who is level with Peter May (941), is only behind Don Bradman (961), Len Hutton (945), Jack Hobbs (942), and Ricky Ponting (942) in the all-time list of most rating points.

In more good news for Indian fans, Ravindra Jadeja, who claimed five wickets in Nagpur, reclaimed the second spot on the bowler’s rankings. The only other major change was Mitchell Starc (10th rank) re-entering the top-10 thanks to his 6/128 against England in Brisbane.
