Virat Kohli now only behind Ricky Ponting and Sachin Tendulkar on the list of most ODI centuries

Virat Kohli seems to break records at will. Not only did he guide India to a comfortable win over the West Indies in the final ODI last night, he also achieved a few personal milestones along the way. Firstly, his 28th ODI century saw him go past Tendulkar’s total of centuries while chasing. However, what makes Kohli’s achievement even more commendable is the fact that while Tendulkar took 232 innings to reach the landmark, Kohli has taken just 102 innings.

From an overall point of view, Kohli is now equal with former Sri Lankan batsman Sanath Jayasuriya on the list of most ODI centuries. This also means that he now trails Ricky Ponting by just two centuries while Sachin Tendulkar sits at the top with 49. 

During the match, last night, Mohammad Shami (4/48) and Umesh Yadav (3/53) had done well to skittle out the West Indies for a paltry total of 205 on a good batting wicket, before Kohli guided India home with a match winning knock of 111*. The Indian skipper was ably supported by Ajinkya Rahane after the early loss of Shikhar Dhawan. And together, Rahane and Kohli steadied the ship with a good partnership.  However, unlike the last game, the duo kept the scoreboard ticking. Eventually, it proved to be the difference as India sailed to a comfortable 8-wicket win to take the series 3-1.
