WATCH | Kiwi players cannot stop laughing as Sunil Ambris gets out hit wicket, AGAIN

Only a week has passed since Ambris became the first player in cricket’s history to get out hit wicket for a golden duck on his Test debut against New Zealand. He was facing Neil Wagner at Basin Reserve in Wellington when the debutant stepped on his stumps while playing the ball.

If his feat seemed unachievable to some, the Windies batsman has now put it beyond doubt by getting dismissed in identical fashion in the very next Test match. This time the 24-year-old was batting against Trent Boult at Seddon Park in Hamilton. Boult bowled a short ball that Ambris knocked onto the leg side and the shot’s execution pushed the right-handed batsman back with his right foot colliding with the stumps. The stump mic gave out that excruciating sound of bails ball over again. 

Trent Boult, who realised the dismissal a few seconds later, couldn’t hide his laughter and nodded his head in disbelief, while other Kiwi players could be heard laughing out loud as they approached the bowler. The commentator said, “Again, again!  He has done it again. He is dumbfounded. Something to work on.”

The batsman was rightly left shell-shocked as he stood on the middle of the pitch for some time looking at the displaced stumps before leaving for the pavilion. He could only garner a score of 18 runs between the two hit-wicket dismissals, becoming just the sixth player in history to score his first runs in a Test match with a six, when a top-edge from his bat saw the ball into the stands on a Boult delivery.
