WATCH | David Miller gets hit by "tracer bullet" on the head

The IPL has already seen some on-field injuries this season with Ambati Rayudu and Chris Lynn's league contributions being cut short. Kings XI Punjab's David Miller had a close shave of his own when Jos Buttler's powerful shot went through his hands and struck him flat on the head.

Having set Mumbai a target of 199, on the back of Hashim Amla's maiden T20 century, the Punjab bowlers suffered the same fate as their opponents. After being hit for 34 runs in the first three overs, Punjab had the first opening to launch a comeback when a Jos Buttler shot went straight at David Miller, who was on the field as a substitute for his compatriot Amla.

But the ball was hit with such ferocity that not only was Miller, who was standing at cover, "slow" to bring his hands at the same level as the ball, it hit him flat on the head. But such was the barbarity of the shot that despite hitting Miller's head inside the inner circle, the ball had enough pace to reach the boundary.

Buttler went on to lead Mumbai to victory by scoring 77 off just 37 balls. And even though Punjab lost the match, they should be thankful that it was all they lost as the South African could have picked up a serious injury had the ball not taken a slight deflection off his fingers.
