Kane Williamson : Special performance from Boult to get us the win

Left-arm Boult produced a brilliant opening spell with the new ball to keep India under check during mandatory powerplay. The Rotorua-born dismissed opener Rohit Sharma for 15 before returning in the ‘death’ overs to pick up the crucial wicket of Hardik Pandya, who was threatening to win the game for India.

It was New Zealand’s first win on the long tour after being routed 3-0 in the Test series and losing the opening ODI of the five-match series.

"He was extremely clever, the way he tried to swing the ball early, then made the adjustment to come around the wicket with the low bounce not to give width. He was extremely accurate and a huge reason why we got across the line today,” Williamson said.

"His 10 overs for 25 runs doesn't happen very often and certainly a special performance to get us the win."

Williamson, who became the first Kiwi to score a century on this tour, insisted that his team was prepared to fight it out in the middle. Although 260 would have been a good score to defend on this wicket, he said the pitch was not easy to bat on.

"We wanted to go out there and fight and it was one of those surfaces where scrapping was important to try and build up that pressure. With a slightly damp ball it was an extremely good effort,” he said.

"The wicket wasn't particularly easy to get away. If we were able to get to 260 with smart cricket, and maybe a little bit beyond, that certainly would have been a good score on that surface but to get to 240 was good enough."
