Spinners R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja took three wickets each as India bowled out West Indies Board President’s XI for 180 on the opening day of the three-day warm-up match at Warner Park in Basseterre. After bowling out the hosts, India lost three wickets to the end the day at 93/3.

Brief Scores : WICB President's XI 180 all-out in 62.5 overs (Cornwall 41(56); Jadeja 3/16, Ashwin 3/62) vs India 93/3 in 25.3 overs (KL Rahul 30*(45), Pujara 28(44); Dawes 1/15)

After drawing the first two-day warm-up match against the West Indies Board President’s XI last week, India faced the same opposition in a three-day fixture as they prepared for the four-Test match series against West Indies. India rested fast bowlers Ishant Sharma, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Umesh Yadav for the game as the team gave Shardul Thakur and Stuart Binny an opportunity.

Leon Johnson, captain of the West Indies Board President’s XI, won the toss in the morning and decided to bat first against the Indians. Mumbai pacer Shardul Thakur struck first to dismiss the opposition skipper in the eighth over. Spinners then came to the picture with R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, and Amit Mishra troubling the batsmen. Ashwin struck to remove John Campbell for 34, while Stuart Binny removed the centurion from the last game, Shai Hope, before lunch.

Jadeja took three wickets in the second session to leave the hosts reeling at 119/6. The tailenders gave India some trouble, but Ashwin and Mishra wrapped up the innings for 180 by taking the last four wickets.

Openers Murali Vijay and Shikhar Dhawan gave India a steady start with a 34-run stand for the first wicket. But, Jason Dawes and Chemar Holder struck in quick succession to remove both the openers to leave India in a spot of bother at 34/2. KL Rahul and Cheteshwar Pujara formed a 59-run partnership to take the innings forward before off-spinner Cornwall removed Pujara as the visitors ended the day at 93/3.
