Gayle returns home for his childbirth; will miss RCB's next two games

West Indian batsman Chris Gayle has flown back to Jamaica to be with his partner Natasha Berridge for the birth of their first child. The 36-year old will miss Royal Challengers Bangalore's next two matches – against the Mumbai Indians and the Rising Pune Supergiants – in the IPL this week.

"Chris flew back immediately after RCB's last match (against Delhi Daredevils on April 17). We did not expect this. He got a call and flew back home," an unnamed RCB source was quoted as saying, by Cricbuzz.

Gayle has had a poor start to the new IPL campaign after contributing just one run in his first two games. However, his absence could prove to be a blow for the Bengaluru-based franchise, who are already without Mitchell Starc and Samuel Badree due to injuries.

With Gayle missing from the batting lineup, Virat Kohli might have to call upon Travis Head to replace him, while using Shane Watson as an opener. The Indian Test skipper might also be tempted to bring in Adam Milne to strengthen his bowling lineup, which has looked vulnerable so far in the tournament.
