Herath retires from ODIs and T20s

Sri Lankan left-arm spinner Rangana Herath announced his retirement from limited-overs cricket on Sunday in order to focus on the remainder of his Test career. The 38-year old informed the Sri Lankan Cricket of his decision the past week, and the board has now accepted his decision.
“Every cricketer has to stop at the right time, I feel it’s time to make room for fresh talent to be groomed with the 2019 World Cup in view,” Herath said in a letter addressed to Sri Lanka Cricket.
Herath played through injuries on his knees over the past two years and was selected in the limited-overs team for the important tournaments. The left-arm spinner has played 71 ODIs and 17 T20Is taking 74 and 18 wickets in them respectively. The 38-year also played a key role in Sri Lanka’s victorious World T20 campaign in 2014, delivering arguably the spell of the tournament by taking five wickets for three runs against New Zealand in a virtual quarter-final.
Most recently, the spinner participated in the 2016 World T20 in India, and took three wickets in four matches in a disastrous campaign for the 2014 champions, which saw them crashing out in the group stage after just one win.
